Two years ago, as a gift, I took a bridal photo session of my wife to celebrate our ten year anniversary. Well someone took a photo from her blog and loaded it to a Russian porn site. We had notice an enormous amount of hits on her blog, but did not know why. Then we were notified by a person that frequents these sites that her photo was the top rated photo. The problem is that we did not believe him and did not put the two things events together and deleted his information, so we don’t know where the site is. In the meantime, we have removed all the photos from her blog and locked it down to where only her friend can have access to it. I don’t think that there is anything to do except wait and see, unless you guys can think of something? Man, I hate this. Here is the photo, I just don’t see why they would take it.

Its very common thing. One thing that I have recently found out from models I have been shooting is photogs are using sites like model mayhem to find young models easy and free. They then turn around and sell their images to dating services. The dating services use these ads in everything from fake profiles to "adult facebook" ads. Its a despicable thing to do, but I guess its "legal" with a signed model release.

So its really no surprise that these sites go around to websites, blogs, and social media sites and steal photos.

I got advice from a lawyer friend of mine a while back who told me this:

"Make sure that if you post images to your blog, even personal, be sure to include a disclaimer in clear view on the homepage that states your terms of use and ownership. Then you have a solid leg to stand on in almost any court of law if it is misused."

Pretty solid advice. I exercise it on my personal blog. :)

It is such a sad, sad world of dishonor, perversion and dishonesty we live in. :( That sucks that it had to happen to you, she's a stunning example of feminine beauty. They should be ashamed. She should be honored and commended for her beauty, not gawked at like a possession.

It's a sad truth that humans are opportunistic - if someone can find a way to exploit or misuse something, they'll do it.

Aww Super I am so sorry. Your wife must feel embarassed and humiliated. That pond scum! What a horrible thing to do. The photo is very lovely and I don't see what it would be doing on a porn site. Glad you locked down her blog.

I'm sorry that happened to you, guys. What kind of porn site is that one? A PG site? How can they even think that's a porn style photograph? Either way, it's really sad you guys had to deal with something like that. I guess some people just see porn everywhere and there's not much we can do about it.

I was engaged to a beautiful Russian lady for 2 years, ex KGB language instructor in English (true) and spent a fair amount of tiime in Russia, or at least Moscow (I'd spend two months there, she'd spend 2 months here each year for two years). Your wife would be the equivalent of Cathy Denueve at her absolute hottest.

Russian men are very strange in many ways.

Also, it's a really nice shot. Russia has some very good photographers and a lot of not very good photographers that are pros there. This is a Platinum shot by there standards and will get the marks in the door! Oops! My three weeks as a Carny popped out!

Roel, she is lovely and so is her dress. I am sorry that happened to you.

I have a Flickr account. About 4 years or so ago, the first pic I took that I was really proud of showed up on one of those Russian Porn sites. And it was a yellow rose, for gosh sakes! They cropped the heck out of it and the resolution was awful, but use it, they did. It also made the Asian sites.

And it happened again recently, this time with a silly self portrait, only it was posted on a blog motivated by hate (why, I'll never know). That prompted me to make all my Flickr images private and available to only Friends and Family. I want to have my own Photography website, but fear the hate monger will find it and assault that one too.

It really bites big time to screw around with your life like that.

All it takes is a "right click". Nothing is safe. All the warnings in the world won't stop someone from stealing an image if that is what they want to do. The only alternative is to not put anything on the web.

You know... I think there is a way to code your gallery so that pictures can't be copied/pasted. I'll do some more research but I have noticed on some sites you can't even right click on an image.

ETA: Nevermind. All a person has to do is print screen and then crop it in PS. I just don't understand why anyone would do that....

Super I am so sorry that happened to your wife. It's despicable. It makes me truly sad. :(

It is a shame that someone did that. Who knows why, and though it obviously distresses you - you shouldn't care. Why do degenerates create computer viruses? Mostly because they can I think - or so they can brag to their friends about their latest mischief. If you tried to persue some legal action, it'd likely cost you way more money than you have to spend. You took the only action you can. I hope it doesn't put you off about posting your images.

You know there's always a possibility that someone on a "friend" list somewhere has some sort of virus that sends out pictures. The went to your Wife's blog site, checked out her picture and that's all that was needed. This pic was in someone's internet explorer cache directory and sent it out to be posted by someone. Probably all there is to it.
