Since I now have a new photo subject that cannot refuse me (well he can... just needs to cry a lot..) I have been playing around with shooting him. Most shots are garbage as I have no idea what I am doing when it comes to shooting with props and posing him. It doesn't help I'm not very "cutesy" creative either...

First shots I just tried to keep it very simple with a off camera flash through white umbrella, a background, Grahams Initials, and allow Graham to stretch and move on his own and just see what happens as I shoot him.

This was the only keeper.

Good first shot!

if you aren't paying a newborn photographer to come in and get shots of him his first 10 days, take time to get some for yourself. I am not a cutsie prop type of shooter either. Look for intimate cuddle moments when your wife is feeding him or just holding him. Take close up body part shots like feet and hands. Shoot him when he is asleep on a pretty sentimental blanket. Shots like that will be real keepers as he grows.

Thanks for the advice. I have been looking out for some of those and was able to run to some craft stores and get inexpensive props related to the 4th of July to shoot with him too.
